Organizing "The Case"

The ever contended glass case that sits in the living room was packed full with boxes and boxes of Giants giveaways and paraphernalia.  As the 2011 Giants season moved on, I was just accumulating more and more stuff.  And the box from the Giants arrived with the first half of the season's giveaways.  Needless to say, there was a whole lot of stuff in there, and it looked a mess.

I took out what was in there and separated out the duplicates and triplicates.  Here's what was going to go back inside:

Here's the finished product:

There's still a lot of room in the center of the case.  I'm going to look for brackets and a shelf to put in there.

Painting the Dining Room

I fought long and hard to have at least one red wall.  After looking at a ton of different shades of red from all over, we decided that the paint MUST be from Sherwin Williams.  They haven't let us down yet, you know?

They had a huge selection of colors, and even more that weren't even on the shelf!  I asked about something once, and the guy busted out a book of swatches!  A BOOK!  There's no way I need that many choices, though.  I was intent on Theater Red as soon as I got a good look at all the colors.  It took Sandra a few minutes to look through all the color combinations before finally agreeing with me, in her non-agreeing sort of way.  She grabbed the Theater Red and proceeded to tell me that this one was better than the one I had chosen.  Uh... it's the same one I chose...  Sweet!

Here's the first red on the wall!

This is after one coat all the way through.  It was the first SW paint to end up streaky.
I really like the color though!

Here's Sandra getting down with the paint.

We got another shade of tan for the rest of the walls in the dining room.  The ceiling will once again be Panda White to go with the Living Room ceiling.

Paint, Paint, Paint...

Two of the Neos from SF (Matt and JT) came through to help paint today.  They primered the dining room.  Geez, they were fast.  I was working on the edges in the living room, and they pretty much finished the dining room when I finished the living room!  Pretty awesome!

Ginormous mirror! I'm going to put this in the Dining room, on the wall opposite the entryway.

Put Up the New Chandelier

That old, ugly, 70's, hanging chandelier was getting on my nerves. The new one had been painted and was ready to put up. We picked up the $4 mounting kit from Home Depot, and we were ready to go! Taking down the old one was really easy; figuring out how the new one has to get mounted wasn't so easy. Thanks to Sandra and her shoulder muscles, we got this thing up and secured. It looks great, don't you think!?

The old one's hanging in the middle back there:

Here's the new one, without the lights on:

Bad Switches!

The switches that are in most of the rooms right now are these really old school tap to dim switches. They're so old, they're pretty much broken. The lights fade in and out on their own, and it makes the place look haunted. It's not fun. I used the two switches from the living room and replaced the switches in the dining room and kitchen. Easily done, no electrocution this time...

Changing the Chandelier

The dining room has this really atrocious 70's styled, weighted, pull-down, push-up light. It's horrible. I've been Craigslisting>Free in hopes that someone can save me from that abomination. This week, someone came through! I just picked up an 80's styled cubist, brass chandelier! It's really dirty, but I think with some cleaning and possibly some paint, it'll look decent enough that I can leave it there for a few years/months!

How It All Started...

My sister and I got a duplex in SF. After the tenants moved out, I started working on patching the holes in the walls, getting stuff moved in, and all that stuff. Here's how everything looked in the beginning! 12/2/09 is the day we got the keys!
